Infrastructure & The Bunker

Colocation in a Tier III data center we work inside of.

Our offices are located inside the Westland Bunker — a real Tier III data center — and we work out of it every day. Your hardware lives in the same building as our engineers. Direct physical access, no third-party remote-hands tickets, no reseller stack.

Context

Infrastructure & The Bunker in Houston — what actually matters.

The public cloud is a good answer for a lot of Houston businesses — and a wrong answer for a meaningful minority of them. Industrial shops running specialized hardware, healthcare practices with medical-imaging workloads, law firms and CPA shops with regulated retention requirements, energy and petrochem operators with operator-led security controls, and any business whose software stack predates the hyperscaler era all hit the same wall eventually: 'the cloud' is not specific enough to describe what they actually need. What they need is infrastructure — real facilities, real power, real people — designed to their workload rather than retrofitted onto it.

Mako's Infrastructure pillar operates inside the Westland Bunker, a Tier III data center in the Houston metro. Our offices are inside the building. Our engineers walk the data floor every day. When a client asks where their hardware physically lives, we can point at the rack. This is the honest story most MSPs can't tell: they resell colocation from facilities they've never set foot in, selling 'our data center' language to clients who assume it means what the words imply. It often doesn't.

The services under this pillar — colocation, hosted solutions, Azure / AWS / private cloud, VoIP and AI voice, dedicated fiber and SD-WAN — are designed as building blocks. Many clients mix them. A practice might colocate their EHR and imaging workloads in the Bunker for physical-presence compliance, run productivity apps in Azure, back up everything to an inland Tier III DR site (also the Bunker), and route calls through Teams Phone brokered via Sandler Partners for best-fit contract terms. The point is not to sell you a single architecture — it's to build the right one for your workload.

The infrastructure decisions that matter most in Houston are named-storm resilience, compliance posture (physical controls for HIPAA, CMMC, CFATS, SOC 2), carrier-neutral connectivity for maritime and petrochem clients who need redundant fiber, and the quiet economics of owning long-lived hardware versus paying hyperscaler markup on steady-state workloads. We architect against those realities — not against a marketing slide.

Who this is for

Businesses that want their critical infrastructure in a real facility with real people they can reach — and businesses for whom 'the cloud' isn't a specific enough answer.

The details

What each piece actually looks like.

Tier III Colocation in Houston — The Westland Bunker

Tier III data-center colocation in the Houston metro, operated by engineers who work inside the facility every day.

Tier III colocation in Houston, delivered out of the Westland Bunker — a purpose-built, multi-tenant data center with concurrent-maintainability infrastructure (redundant power paths, N+1 cooling, and a physical-security profile the public cloud can't replicate). Mako Logics' offices are inside the Bunker. Our engineers walk the data floor every day. When your hardware needs hands on it, the hands are ours and they are minutes away — not a next-day remote-hands ticket in a facility nobody on your team has ever set foot in.

Disaster Recovery in a Tier III Data Center — Houston

DR hosting inland of the Ship Channel surge zone, in a Tier III facility engineers are physically inside every day.

Named-storm season in Houston is a planning constraint, not a rumor. Coastal and Ship Channel-adjacent facilities carry real evacuation risk every year. Mako's disaster recovery service runs your warm-standby or active-standby replica in the Westland Bunker — a Tier III data center located inland of the surge zone, on separate power infrastructure, staffed by the same engineers who run your primary environment. When the coast is under mandatory evacuation, your business is already running from the Bunker. When the event is over, we fail back cleanly.

VoIP, AI Voice & Connectivity

Any VoIP platform, AI voice assistants, dedicated fiber, SD-WAN — brokered and managed under one roof.

Houston VoIP and AI voice brokered through Sandler Partners — any major platform (Teams Phone, Zoom Phone, RingCentral, 8x8, Nextiva, Dialpad AI, Vonage, vertical-specific UCaaS), AI-powered voice add-ons, and dedicated fiber or SD-WAN from every carrier in the market. You don't get pushed onto whatever we resell the most of — we shop the catalog, compare SLAs and contracts, and recommend what actually fits your business. Install, porting, integration, and ongoing support stay with Mako.

Our approach

How infrastructure & the bunker actually gets delivered.

  1. 1

Workload assessment — the right home per workload

Every Infrastructure engagement starts by categorizing your workloads: what needs physical proximity (industrial hardware, medical imaging), what benefits from public cloud elasticity (burst compute, global reach), what needs regulated physical controls (HIPAA, CMMC, CFATS evidence), what's cheaper to capital-own over a 5-year window. The answer is almost never 'move everything to the cloud' — it's a mix, and the mix is documented.

  2. 2

Colocation in the Bunker — Tier III, staffed by our engineers

For workloads that belong in a data center, we offer rack space (quarter, half, full, multi-rack) in the Westland Bunker. Redundant power, N+1 cooling, biometric access controls, carrier-neutral meet-me room. Remote-hands is delivered by the same engineering bench that runs your environment — not a ticket queue routed through a reseller. See /services/infrastructure/colocation for the full Tier III detail.

  3. 3

Public cloud, architected for your business — not the vendor's

Azure, AWS, and private-cloud deployments built to avoid the two most common hyperscaler traps: accidental lock-in (data and architecture that can't be moved without rebuild) and surprise egress bills (bandwidth economics that don't match your workload). We architect for portability where it matters and commit to a platform where that's the right call.

  4. 4

    Connectivity — carrier-neutral, Sandler-brokered

DIA, fiber, SD-WAN, and failover circuits sourced through Sandler Partners as a broker. That means when you need a new internet contract, we run the RFQ across every regional carrier, compare SLAs and pricing side-by-side, and negotiate contract terms — without pushing the one we earn more margin on. The brokerage is paid by the carrier; you pay the same price as going direct but get advocacy.

  5. 5

    Disaster recovery — named-storm ready

Houston's hurricane risk is a real planning constraint, not a talking point. Our DR architectures use the Westland Bunker (inland of the Ship Channel surge zone) as the failover site for coastal primary environments. Warm-standby, active-standby, or active-active depending on your RTO / RPO. Tested annually, rehearsed on a documented runbook. See /services/infrastructure/disaster-recovery-tier-iii.

  6. 6

    VoIP + AI voice — platform-agnostic, integration-aware

We broker any major VoIP or AI voice platform through Sandler — Teams Phone, Zoom Phone, RingCentral, 8x8, Nextiva, Dialpad AI — sized to how your business actually handles calls. For healthcare, HIPAA-compliant AI voice agents for intake. For legal, secure transcription with retention tuned to bar-ethics requirements. Integration with Microsoft 365, CRMs, and LOB apps stays with Mako end-to-end.

How switching works

Four steps. No disruption.

The #1 reason businesses stay with a bad MSP is the fear of switching. Here’s how we make that fear unfounded.

  1. 01

    Discovery

We learn your environment, your people, and your real pain points. No sales-team script — actual technical conversation.

  2. 02

    Plan

We audit and deliver a written plan — what stays, what gets replaced, what gets hardened, what the monthly number looks like. No surprises.

  3. 03

    Transition

We take over day-to-day without disrupting your work. Your current provider's runbook, your access, your vendor relationships — we document every piece before anything changes hands.

  4. 04

    Running

Proactive support, 24/7 monitoring, quarterly strategy reviews. Your people call, a real person answers. Typically 2–4 weeks from signed agreement to fully operational.

Typical timeline from signed agreement to fully operational: 2–4 weeks. We document everything so if you ever leave, the next provider picks up without starting over.

FAQ

Infrastructure & The Bunker — common questions.

Do I have to use Mako as my MSP to colocate in the Bunker?

Not strictly — but most clients do both. The coordination advantages are significant.

What uptime SLA do you offer?

SLA specifics depend on the service (colo vs hosted vs cloud) and are contracted in writing. We don't do one-size-fits-all SLA language.

Can I mix colocation with cloud services?

Yes — hybrid architectures are common. Some workloads are better suited to each.
